Rat

a 'graft' for Edwin Morgan

The rat catches
in the catch of the rattrap; is mangled
rat-tra
The double-t stretched like a spring
on the breezeblock floor
in the bark shed warmed by the burner.

On my spade now; one more word I have killed
and hurled, a form cleaving to it.
The rigid claws are pale
as the light rows over the garden.
