The Columbia Review is published twice a year and is available for free on Columbia campus and on the magazine’s website. We accept and publish poetry and fiction submissions from writers within and beyond Columbia University. Because we work with the academic year, we compile our issues in weekly meetings in the Spring or Fall semester, and then publish our issues the next semester. We make pieces available online as soon as the final selection is complete. Our current issue is the Spring 2025 issue, which was compiled during the Spring 2025 semester and will be designed and printed in September 2025.

The Columbia Review is run entirely by undergraduate students. The editors-in-chief, elected each year by the board, sort through all submissions in the initial selection round. Pieces are then evaluated by the board as a whole. We evaluate pieces anonymously, meaning we read them without the author’s name attached. This allows us to give fair consideration to each piece. Every board member brings a different perspective to weekly meetings, but we try to evaluate pieces holistically, taking into account the formal and stylistic qualities of a piece as well as its content. We also pay special attention to the political content of pieces and strive to amplify narratives and voices that have been historically ignored.

Our website features interviews and reviews written by members of the editorial board. We accept review and interview requests, though we cannot always honor them.

We are a small magazine and always welcome inquiries and suggestions via email. For people living outside Morningside Heights and Harlem, we are happy to ship copies of the Review while supplies last.

The Columbia Review receives some of its funding from the Activities Board at Columbia. Unlike other college literary magazines, our budget is quite limited so we host bake sales and fundraiser events on campus every semester to raise money to cover full printing costs. We have recently been designated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and can therefore accept donations. If you’re interested in supporting the Review financially, you can find more information here. If you’re interested in supporting our work in other ways, feel free to join us or to email us at thecolumbiareview@gmail.com.
